Without regret, and in splendid voice, Cynthia Johnson has spent most of her lifetime generously using her remarkable gift in the artistic service of others. But now with her new project, All That I Am, Johnson is finally singing for herself, coming out from behind the curtain.
All That I Am sums up a lifetime of a vocal artistry on a very personal level. It is Johnson in full bloom, at the peak of her talents as both singer – and a songwriter – and in full control of her performance and passion.
All That I Am features some of the Twin Cities’ most celebrated musicians, keyboard player Ricky Peterson, drummer Michael Bland, producer / bass player and co- songwriter Jack Robinson, bass guitarist Tony Axtell, Guitarist Dean McGraw, Vocalists Sounds of Blackness / Margaret Cox / Jerolyn Steele / Chris Boone and Leitah, All That I Am is coming out on the independent label I Am Entertainment, a recording and performance enterprise that she and Robinson shared together. “On these recording sessions for the album,” Johnson laughs, “I didn’t have to please any record executive or producer, I just had to please me.
